Refugees, both Jewish and Arab, were a result of the War of Independence when 5 Arab countries attacked Israel rather than accept the Partition Plan which would have provided both Jews and Palestinians each with their own state.
Between 600,000 - 700,000 Jews were thrown out of their home countries in the Arab countries in North Africa at the same time that the same number of Arabs was displaced. (I will ignore for the moment whether they left of their own accord assuming they would return when the you Jewish state was wiped out, or whether they were forced out of their homes.)
The picture above shows the 59 Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, and Gaza that exist to this day!
Although there were the same number of Jewish refugees, THERE ARE NO JEWISH REFUGEE CAMPS ANYWHERE! And, there are no Palestinian refugee camps inside Israel …. BECAUSE THE ARABS THAT REMAINED WERE ABSORBED BY THE JEWISH STATE as full citizens.
Kind of makes you wonder doesn’t it? The Palestinians are being used as pawns. Refugee camps breed contempt, radicalism and ensure that the Arab / Israeli conflict continues. The Arab world is not worried about the Palestinians. If they were the problem could have been solved years ago.

The reality in the West Bank is that it is scarey to drive on the roads because you have to be constantly on edge and keep your eyes open for attacks - cement blocks, molotov cocktails, shooting, etc. A month or so ago a couple and 3 of their tiny children were stabbed to death while they were sleeping IN THEIR BEDS.
Yes, the roadblocks and other restrictions in the West Bank made life difficult at times for the Palestinians. However, if the violence would stop those restrictions wouldn’t be necessary!

Hi Mu-ma. Sorry for not answering sooner. It’s been pretty busy here.
My heart aches for the difficulties faced by the average Palestinian as well. However, they have been offered a state of their own so many times (starting in 1948) and each time they turn it down in the hopes of wiping out the State of Israel. I don’t know anyone in Israel that wants to rule over the Palestinians. We want to live in security and peace. However, as our withdrawl from Gaza proved … what we want isn’t what we necessarily get.

Glad you enjoy the blog! I feel honored to live in Israel
Gives an interesting perspective on the conflict when the Arabs in Jerusalem stand up in the Knesset and state that they want East Jerusalem to remain in Israeli hands.
